Distance learning in K-12 is something I did not experience personally until my senior year of high school. I was taking online dual-enrollment classes and it was my first distance learning experience. A technology I used for the first time was Zoom, and it made me realize how quickly we can adapt to distance learning. Zoom was an important feature for communication, PowerPoint for instruction, and Canvas to structure the class. These were effective to bridge the educational gaps when distance learning was relevant during the pandemic, and are useful in our regular structure too. A technology I have always wanted to use that is useful in distance learning is Jamboard. This platform allows students to collaborate on ideas virtually. It could be a great way to structure ideas and seems fun and engaging. Open educational resources are teaching resources that are open-domain and accessible to all educators and students. Some examples are Creative Commons and Khan Academy, which provide med...

When making my website, I utilized many of the web design principles from class. Contrast was useful when I used a gray landscape photo for a page background. I needed white text for effective contrast so it was more visible. Proximity also came in handy when I made organized lists on my web page. I liked using the elements because my design choices became more intentional. I plan to use these web elements in future assignments to improve my digitial design skills. Below is my website QR Code: QR codes in the classroom are such a great idea. This is a responsible way students can use technology in the classroom. The codes could link to various tools like a thesaurus, formula guide, flow chart, or any other resource that could be useful if it were easily accessible to students. Simply post them around different spots or even have a dedicated poster for the QR codes. A specific area for the codes could include a phone charging station for students to use too. Below is the ethical use of ...

Some of the pages that school websites use to relay information are administration/staff pages, calendars, school updates, registration, and more. All of this information is public so that students and parents can stay up to date and access resouces. The administration/staff pages are useful to find staff contact information. Specific tabs are available for parent and student resouces too. Links and downloads to forms, policies, and the handbook can be found, for example.  https://www.okaloosaschools.com/o/choctaw/page/about-us Technology will help me in my professional responsibilities because it will help me stay organized and do my job easier. I will use a plethora of productivity tools in any future job to be more efficient. From communication tools like Remind to management systems like a class calendar, there is a lot of utility available to teachers. I often use Google docs or note-taking apps like OneNote to keep my classes and ideas organized, so they could aid me in the f...

I enjoy blogging more than I thought I would initially. I think it’s a great way to reflect on the concepts of the week and think about how I can potentially use these concepts and skills later in life. I like that there is a great deal of freedom with blogging and that I can talk about my own experiences how I choose. I prefer this kind of assignment to test my knowledge over discussion boards because it has more leeway and can be more personal. Since I’ve started blogging in this class, I’ve improved on my understanding of the technological skills we have learned. A Web 2.0 tool that I would like to use in my future teaching is Wikis. Wikis provide a collaborative approach to receiving and sharing information, and I do not feel like they are utilized in an educational setting enough. Though wikis’ reliability have been criticized due to anyone’s ability to make changes, I believe it is still important for students to learn from these sites. They can learn how to be critical o...

When I first started using social media tools, I was around fourteen years old. Personally, I never had a Pinterest or X. The social media tools I did have growing up, though, were Snapchat and Instagram. I interacted with friends through these applications, and it helped me stay in touch with them when my family and I moved a lot. Though I have not used Instagram or X for career driven reasons, I can see how these platforms could be helpful in the future. Social media tools are an opportunity to network and interact with people that could open new doors for my future career path. Growing up, I attended schools that were digitally rich. There were always computer labs that we would use as a class to complete assignments. I feel that this allowed me to feel more comfortable navigating computers, especially in an educational setting. Because I participated in computer classes throughout my K-12 experience, I was more prepared for my consistent technology usage in college. Those who did n...
